The Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary contains one of the most diverse underwater communities of plants and animals in North America. Its dazzling coral reefs support rich marine populations that depend on the reefs for shelter and food. The Eco-Discovery Center informs visitors about this regional environment through presentation and orientation.
A main goal of the center is to promote sensitive ecotourism and reduce its impact on the region by educating, assisting, and guiding visitors. The center also provides an alternative means of accessing the environmentespecially those sensitive areas which are closed to the public. Opened in the summer of 2006, the center features 6,000 square feet of interactive and dynamic exhibits depicting the terrestrial and underwater habitats of the Florida Keys.
