As part of the Shedd Aquarium’s $150 million renovation and expansion project, Lyons/Zaremba worked with architects, engineers and the aquarium staff to design a new conceptual centerpiece for the expanded buildinga new Caribbean coral reef and renovated rotunda. A major consideration was the need to respect the existing space and historical features of this established educational institution.
The team created a successful new coral reef habitat, interactive exhibit elements and a multimedia show about ecological “connectedness,” while maintaining and even celebrating Shedd’s long-standing architectural features.
